Golf - Ross’s Southern Charm
The Wyndham Championship is the 34th and final regular season event, and Sedgefield Country Club is the right closing argument — a Donald Ross par-70 at 7,131 yards that has hosted since 2008.
Sedgefield got a full restoration to Ross's original drawings in 2007. Small, crowned, wildly undulating greens — this is a driving-accuracy and wedge-control week, not a bomber's week.
Cameron Young defends after winning by six last year on the back of a 63-62 start. Win again and he joins Sam Snead (1954-55) as the only back-to-back champ here.
Everything is about the top 70. Miss it and your season ends Sunday; make it and you're in Memphis at TPC Southwind next week.
Jackson Koivun sitting at exactly No. 70 after winning the 3M Open is the cruelest math in golf. Brooks Koepka at No. 86 needs a top-five and probably a little help.
Through two rounds Ben James is out front at 11-under, with Sahith Theegala at 10 and Beau Hossler at 9. Joel Dahmen's 6-under Friday is exactly the kind of round that saves a card.
Watch the par-3 16th on Sunday afternoon. Short holes decide bubble weeks because everyone in the field is trying to make three and someone always makes five.

Music - Live Music for You
Southern rock is a genre that studio recordings systematically undersell. The bands were built for rooms, and the tape proves it.
Start with the ceiling: The Allman Brothers Band, "Whipping Post," At Fillmore East, March 1971. Twenty-three minutes, two drummers, Duane and Dickey trading like they're arguing — the album is still the high-water mark for live rock.
If you want the earlier, rawer take, the official 9/23/1970 Fillmore East recording is meaner and less polished. Both are correct answers.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's full Day on the Green set, Oakland Coliseum, 7/2/1977 was filmed three months before the plane went down. The "Free Bird" from that afternoon is the definitive version and it isn't close.
The Marshall Tucker Band, "Can't You See," Grand Opera House, 9/10/1973. A flute solo in a southern rock song should not work. Toy Caldwell made it the best part.
The Outlaws' "Green Grass and High Tides" live at the Capitol Theatre in 1978 is a ten-minute triple-guitar closer that most bands couldn't survive attempting.
The lineage is alive: Drive-By Truckers carry the storytelling, Blackberry Smoke carry the harmony, and Whiskey Myers carry the volume. Go see one this fall.

Food - Parking Lot Party
The rule for tailgating is that anything requiring your full attention at 11am is a bad recipe. Cook Friday night, reheat Saturday.
Smoked brisket is the pilgrimage food, and Texas Monthly's tailgate playbook is the honest version — it's a Friday project, not a Saturday one.
Wings are the correct high-volume play. Traeger's tailgate collection gets you smoked-then-seared wings that hold heat in a foil pan for two hours.
Chili is the most underrated tailgate food because it improves in the cooler overnight. Food Network's tailgating fifty has enough variations to run a whole season without repeating.
Learn the regional classics and cook the host school's — Seattle dogs in Seattle, boiled peanuts in Athens. It's a cheap way to be a good guest.
Georgia fans will tell you the tailgate is about the sides, and they're right. Deviled eggs, pimento cheese, and something pickled do more work than the protein.
Atlanta parallel: the North Ave. debate is the same debate every SEC town is having. Fox Bros and Heirloom Market are the two ends of the argument — one is the standard, one is the Korean-inflected reinvention — and Community Q quietly wins the weekly-rotation slot. Same conversation as Austin or Memphis, different parking lot.
Tell your people you love them…
Relationships - The Standing Invitation
The best relationship structure anyone ever invented is the recurring, low-stakes, non-negotiable appointment. College football Saturday is the accidental masterpiece.
Nobody has to plan it. Nobody has to ask. It happens twelve times a year whether you're doing well or not, and that's the whole trick.
Most friendships don't end in a fight. They end because someone had to be the one to text first one too many times.
A standing invitation removes that tax. Same lot, same time, same people — you show up and the relationship maintains itself.
The real bench check: of the people you'll text this fall, how many would tell you your business plan is bad? If the answer is zero, you have an audience, not friends.
The men who age well are the ones with a Saturday. Not a sport specifically — a repeating reason to be in a room with people who knew them before.
If you don't have one, build it this month. Pick a date, pick a place, send it to five people, and then keep showing up even the weeks nobody else does — that's the part that makes it real.

Football - 2026 CFB Primer
Week 0 is Saturday, August 29, headlined by North Carolina vs. TCU at Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The first full Saturday is September 5.
Mark Wisconsin–Notre Dame and Clemson–LSU on September 5. Two games that will define two conferences by Halloween.
The preseason board: Indiana defending, then Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon, Miami, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, USC. Curt Cignetti has turned Bloomington into a real place.
The Playoff stays at 12 after the Big Ten and SEC couldn't agree on expansion, with straight seeding. First round December 18, semis January 14-15, title game January 25 in Las Vegas.
The Heisman race is a quarterback race: Arch Manning, CJ Carr, Julian Sayin, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss. Sayin returning as a finalist is the safest bet on the board.
Lane Kiffin to LSU is the coaching story. He inherits more talent and considerably less patience — Baton Rouge does not do rebuilding years.
Georgia at No. 3 has the roster and the schedule; what it needs is the quarterback room to settle by mid-September. Kirby's teams peak in November, so judge them then, not in Week 3.
On the road again…
Travel - Cathedrals
Build the fall around one game, not one city. Pick the stadium first and let the rest of the trip assemble itself behind it.
Tiger Stadium at night is the No. 1 answer and everyone who's been agrees. Get to Baton Rouge by noon, eat your way through the lots, and don't drive home.
The Horseshoe and a Penn State White Out are the two Big Ten musts. Beaver Stadium in white with 106,000 people is the single best visual in the sport.
Kyle Field for Midnight Yell the night before is the trip where the traditions outshine the game. Go Friday, not Saturday.
Neyland is the loudest, Autzen is the loudest per capita, and Sanford is the hardest ticket. Death Valley at Clemson with the Hill entrance is the most underrated of the top ten.
The sleeper on the list is Michie Stadium at Army — the Hudson River behind the north end zone, a corps of cadets marching in, and tickets you can actually buy.
Weekend architecture: fly in Friday morning, base in the walkable part of town, do the campus and the Friday night ritual, tailgate five hours Saturday, and leave Sunday. The anchor is the game — everything else is decoration.
Take care of yourself…
Exercise - 4 Lifts, 16 Weeks
Run 5/3/1 from now through the end of bowl season. Four lifts — squat, bench, deadlift, press — one per day, four days a week.
Set your training max at 90% of your true max and then be honest about your true max. BarBend's breakdown is the cleanest explanation of the percentages.
The wave: week one is 5s, week two is 3s, week three is 5/3/1, week four deloads. Add 5 lbs to upper body TMs and 10 to lower each cycle and don't get creative.
The last set is AMRAP — every rep past the prescribed number is where the program actually works. That's the set that decides whether the cycle mattered.
After the main lift, Boring But Big — 5x10 of the same movement at 50-60% — is the simplest accessory template that exists. Add chins and rows to taste.
Grab the spreadsheet and fill in your numbers tonight. The programs people abandon are the ones they have to think about on the drive to the gym.
Sixteen weeks from today is Thanksgiving weekend. The plates you put on the bar in a quiet August garage are the reason you feel like yourself in December — nobody claps for the August work, which is exactly why it separates people.
