The Travelers Championship is at TPC River Highlands this week — a Pete Dye redesign at under 6,900 yards and a par of just 70.
Don't let the scorecard fool you. The greens here are some of the smallest on Tour, which means precision off the tee counts for nothing if you can't drop a wedge inside ten feet on a target the size of a coffee table — this is a putting-and-iron test, full stop.
The course was built as a plodder's paradise, and the modern game has caught up to it. The bombers now fly the trees and cut the corners, turning honest par 4s into driver-wedge birdie holes; the architecture is fighting the equipment and slowly losing.
Scottie Scheffler is the favorite, and on a course that rewards iron play and a hot putter, that's the wrong man to fade.
Wyndham Clark arrives a week removed from his wire-to-wire U.S. Open win at Shinnecock — and the irony is that River Highlands punishes the exact bombing aggression that just won him a second major. Keegan Bradley is back to defend, having won this thing twice in three years.
It's the last Signature Event of the season. Twenty million dollars, a tightening FedExCup, and a shrinking number of premium fields left for the guys who need a result.

Music - Where Black, Brown, and Beige Began
One of the great American compositions started in a dressing room. In 1942, backstage at Hartford's State Theater, Duke Ellington began writing "Black, Brown and Beige" — sharing that night's bill with a young Frank Sinatra.
It premiered at Carnegie Hall the next year. The masterpiece was born somewhere unglamorous and crowned somewhere famous — which is how it almost always goes.
Hartford had a real jazz golden age before and after the war, clubs packed through the North End, big bands rolling through Foot Guard Hall.
Gene Pitney was a local. Start with "Town Without Pity" — a voice that could break glass.
Here's the deep cut. Jeff Porcaro, the drummer who anchored Toto and played on half the records you grew up on, came out of this area; put on "Rosanna" and you'll understand why session players still study his right hand three decades later.
Fun left turn: Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray is from here too. From Ellington to "Fly" is a wider range than any city this size should have.

Food - The Nutmeg State’s Three Pillars
The pilgrimage is non-negotiable: New Haven apizza at Frank Pepe, open since 1925. Coal-fired, charred, blistered — and the white clam pie is the only correct order.
Then the lobster roll, done the right way. Warm chunks bathed in butter, no mayo. Connecticut will die on this hill, and they're right to.
The locals-only curveball is the steamed cheeseburger, born in Meriden in the 1920s — a patty cooked in a steam cabinet that sounds wrong until you eat one.
In the city itself, Sorella is the room that made Hartford's food scene act like it belongs. Chef Joe Keane treats Italian-American comfort like it's worth doing carefully — semolina-fried oysters, real carbonara with guanciale. It's the reservation to make.
A full week earns the crawl: apizza in New Haven, a lobster roll on the shoreline, a steamed burger in Meriden, Sorella to close.
The thing nobody tells you: the best meal in Connecticut isn't in Hartford or New Haven. It's a Louis' Lunch burger — served on toast, no ketchup allowed, from the place that claims to have invented the hamburger in 1900. Go argue about it in person.

We confuse visibility with progress.

So ask who in your circle would tell you your "Black, Brown and Beige" isn't ready yet. Most people clap for the performance; very few give you notes in the dressing room.
That's the real bench — not the crowd at the highlight, but the two or three who'll say the hard thing while there's still time to fix it. If you can't name them, that's the work this week.

Football - The Summer Update
The offseason's biggest jolt landed June 1: Myles Garrett to the Rams and A.J. Brown to the Patriots in back-to-back blockbusters, reuniting Brown with Mike Vrabel in New England.
Then Kansas City reminded everyone who runs the league — Patrick Mahomes reset the market with a restructured extension north of half a billion dollars.
The Jets quietly went shopping with their own guys — extensions for Breece Hall and Minkah Fitzpatrick. When a team pays its core in June, it's telling you it thinks the window is now.
The pass-rush market keeps climbing too — the Ravens handed Trey Hendrickson a four-year deal with $60 million guaranteed. Edge rushers are the new quarterbacks when it comes to getting paid.
One room worth watching: Atlanta. Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa are set to compete for QB1 under Kevin Stefanski — though with Penix still rehabbing offseason ACL surgery, the real competition won't start until camp.
Around the league, the order still reads Eagles and Lions at the top of the NFC. Everyone else is auditioning for the next tier, and most of these June moves are bets on getting there.
Here's the honest read on all of it: OTAs and minicamp tell you a team's intentions, not its truth. Nobody's tackling, nobody's at full speed — bank the storylines, but wait for pads in late July before you believe any of it.

Travel - Built Around Cromwell
Fly into Bradley International north of Hartford. The course is a 20-minute drive south, so you're never fighting traffic to a morning tee time.
Base in West Hartford, not downtown — the Center has the walkable dinner-and-drinks scene and you're a short hop from both the golf and the museums.
Work Thursday and Friday at the tournament. That's when you can actually walk the grounds and post up at 15 through 17 before the weekend crowd swallows the place.
Save Saturday morning for the Mark Twain House, where he wrote his best work, and the Wadsworth Atheneum — the oldest continuously operating public art museum in the country.
The move everyone skips: Elizabeth Park's rose garden and the Riverfront Recapture trails. Rent a kayak on the Connecticut River or just loop the park — it's the most underrated hour in town.
Sunday, catch the back nine, then a Yard Goats game if the schedule lines up. Cheap seats, great little ballpark, exactly the right speed to end a trip.
The principle never changes: the best trips are built backwards from a single anchor, not forward from a city brochure. Pick the thing, then let it tell you where to fly, sleep, and eat.

Exercise - Build the Engine
The real goal of fitness isn't a number on a bar — it's being the same person at 6pm that you were at 9am. Energy that holds all day is the most underrated form of strength there is.
Conditioning is the base nobody wants to do. Two or three easy zone-2 sessions a week — bike, row, brisk incline — and you'll feel it in everything from your mood to how you sleep.
Lift. Strength training is the closest thing we have to an anti-aging drug, and after 30 it's not optional — it's the difference between aging into your body and aging out of it.
Don't skip mobility. Five minutes of hip and thoracic-spine work a day keeps the small stuff from becoming the injury that sidelines you for a month.
Sleep is the cheat code. No workout, supplement, or cold plunge comes close to what seven to eight honest hours does for your recovery and your decisions.
It's June and it's hot — hydration is training, not an afterthought. Start the day before a hard session, not when you're already wrung out.
None of it is sexy, and that's the point. The work you put in now is the reason you're still standing tall months from now when everyone around you is gassed — do the boring stuff today so the future version of you coasts.
