Golf - Cards are on the Table

  • The Korn Ferry Tour Championship is the most honest tournament in golf — 60 players, one week, and the top 20 on the points list walk away with 2027 PGA Tour cards. No appearance fees, no limited-field cushion, just a job on the line every shot.

  • New home this year: the finale left French Lick for Richmond after 14 years in southern Indiana. It lands at The Federal Club in Glen Allen — an Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay design with bentgrass tee to green, rolling Hanover County terrain, and big undulating greens.

  • The course has its own comeback arc. Federal Club opened in 2007, went bankrupt two years later, and got rebuilt by new owners — a fitting stage for a week full of guys on their second, third, and fourth shot at the big leagues.

  • The headliner is 19-year-old Blades Brown, sitting No. 14 and in position to pass Jason Day (2007) as the youngest graduate in tour history. Twelve top-25s in 17 starts — the kid isn't sneaking in.

  • The bubble is where the drama lives. Cole Hammer — former world No. 1 amateur, U.S. Open qualifier at 15 — sits exactly No. 20 in his third full season grinding for a first card. Check the five names to know and the minimum finishes needed before the weekend.

  • At the top, Sandy Scott owns back-to-back wins and a 23-point lead over Ross Steelman — they're the only two who can finish No. 1 and grab exemptions into the 2027 Players and U.S. Open. Players ranked 43-60 need a win, period.

  • Tactical note: Federal Club plays as a par 71 at 7,073 yards this week — a stroke tighter than the members' card. Kyle Westmoreland set the early pace at -5 in Round 1 — follow the live leaderboard and catch the weekend on Golf Channel, 1-4 p.m. ET.

Relationships - Inside the Cone

  • Nobody on the Gulf Coast knew exactly where Isaias would land — the forecast is a cone, not a line. Locals don't prepare for the line; they prepare for the whole cone.

  • Kirby Smart summed up his week as "uncertainty beyond my control". Most of life fits in that phrase — the job offer, the diagnosis, the relationship you can't read yet.

  • Coastal people do the reversible things early. Plywood goes up even if the storm turns, because being wrong about prep costs a Saturday and being wrong the other way costs everything.

  • Decide your trigger before the storm. Residents know in advance what category sends them inland — in relationships, decide your non-negotiables before the hard conversation, not in the middle of it.

  • Baldwin County's emergency managers keep telling residents to check on their neighbors. So run the audit: who actually calls you when the power's out — and who do you call?

  • After Ivan flattened the Flora-Bama in 2004, staff served drinks out of tents for weeks. Recovery isn't a solo sport; it's people showing up before the building does.

  • You don't control the storm. You control who's in the house with you when it hits.

OMAHA…

Football - Rain in Tuscaloosa

  • No. 2 Georgia at No. 6 Alabama, both 5-0 and 3-0 in the SEC, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC from Bryant-Denny. The biggest game of Week 6 is getting played in the wake of a Category 3 hurricane.

  • Isaias makes landfall on the Alabama coast tonight, and the SEC's contingency playbook is about kickoff time, not location. Precedent exists — Georgia's 2016 game at South Carolina moved to Sunday for Hurricane Matthew. Check official channels before you drive.

  • On paper it's a shootout: Georgia leads the SEC at 51.4 points per game and hasn't trailed all season; Alabama is the only FBS team with 45+ in every game. Forecasts call for up to five inches of rain in Tuscaloosa — something gives.

  • The quarterbacks have been near-perfect: Gunner Stockton at 13 TD, 1 INT, Keelon Russell at 11 TD, 2 INT. Wet ball, wet grass — the guy who's happiest handing off wins this one.

  • That points to the ground game. In last December's SEC title game, Georgia ran for 141 yards; Alabama ran for -3 — and Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens are both back.

  • But Tuscaloosa has been Kirby Smart's house of horrors. Alabama is 7-2 against Smart, 9-2 at home against Georgia, and won the last meeting in this building 41-34 in 2024.

  • ESPN's SP+ projects Georgia 30-27, and the weather tilts it further. Georgia hasn't been in a close game all year — the question is whether they can win ugly in a hostile building, in the rain, the day after a hurricane.

On the road again…

Travel - Lower Alabama, Later

  • This weekend, Isaias, a major Category 3 hurricane, aimed at the stretch from coastal Alabama to the western Florida Panhandle, with storm surge of 5 to 7 feet possible.

  • If you've got people or property down there, Baldwin County EMA is the source of truth — sign up for alerts. Evacuation zones, curfews, and bridge closures change by the hour.

  • Plan for the comeback trip. When Buffett pulled 35,000 people to a town of 5,000 after the 2010 spill, it was proof that visitor dollars are recovery dollars.

  • Base in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores and spend a morning on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail — 28 paved miles through nine ecosystems inside Gulf State Park, connecting both towns. Most beach visitors never leave the sand.

  • Friday night is gumbo at LuLu's on the Intracoastal, the restaurant Lucy Buffett grew from a six-table shack on Weeks Bay. Saturday night is the Flora-Bama — 60-plus years on the state line, rebuilt after Ivan, still running roughly 3,500 shows a year.

  • Book through GulfShores.com or OrangeBeach.com once the all-clear comes, and favor the locally owned condo, charter, and restaurant. The coast that sold you on it is the coast that needs you back.

  • The principle holds: build the trip backwards from a single anchor. This time, the anchor is simple — show up when they reopen.

Take care of yourself…

Exercise - Storm Day Seven

  • Step 1 — March and circle (3 min): high-knee march in place with big arm circles. Korn Ferry players are walking miles with careers on the line this weekend while you're stuck inside under rain bands — so this is seven steps, no equipment, no power needed, three rounds.

  • Step 2 — Air squats (15): three seconds down, one second up. Slow tempo is what builds the legs that hold posture on the 16th hole.

  • Step 3 — Push-ups (10-15): chest to the floor, elbows at 45 degrees. Drop to your knees before your form drops.

  • Step 4 — Reverse lunges (10 each leg): step back, knee kisses the floor, drive through the front heel. Single-leg strength is golf strength.

  • Step 5 — Plank to glute bridge (45 sec plank, 15 bridges): brace the core, then fire the glutes. These are the muscles that protect your lower back from your swing.

  • Step 6 — Stair finisher (5 min): climb, walk down, repeat — or burpees if you live on one floor. Breathing hard is the point.

  • Step 7 — Cooldown stretch (3 min): hip flexors, hamstrings, and a slow thoracic twist. The unsexy work done on a dark, rainy Saturday is exactly what shows up when the sun comes back.
