Golf - Six Cards in the Caribbean
The PGA Tour Americas season ends this week somewhere it has never ended before — the Dominican Republic. PGA Ocean's 4 at Playa Nueva Romana opened in 2017 and is the only PGA of America–affiliated course in the country.
It's four courses in one: parkland, Scottish links, desert, and Caribbean holes, stretched to 7,334 yards and par 72. Four holes run right along the sea, and Robert Trent Jones II just rebuilt the bunkers ahead of this week.
The stakes are simple: 60 players, 72 holes, no cut, $225K purse, and 600 points to the winner. Everybody plays four rounds, and everybody can still play their way into The 10.
Four guys already have their 2027 Korn Ferry cards — Thomas Ponder, Corey Pereira, Étienne Papineau and Patrick Flavin. Six cards are left on the table for Sunday.
Ponder is the story of the season. The third-year grinder posted a top-25 in every start through ten events and set the Tour's points record doing it — no fireworks, just relentless.
Don't sleep on this tour. Its first two points leaders, Johnny Keefer and Michael Brennan, are both already on the PGA Tour.
Watch the four seaside holes — that's where Caribbean wind turns a card into a scramble. Top 10 also get a shot at Final Stage of Q-School, so follow the bubble on the live leaderboard all the way to the 72nd hole.

Music - Live and Loud
Start with Clay Street Unit — the Denver roots band that went from local clubs to Red Rocks and the Opry in about two years. Their WMOT session ("Let's Get Stoned," "Virginia," "Drive") is the perfect 10-minute intro.
Then hit their AmericanaFest Day Stage set: "1200 Miles" and "Where Have You Gone?". Mandolin, fiddle, gang vocals — this is a band built for a stage, not a studio.
Hometown crowd version: "Drive" and "Freightline Blues" live at Cervantes in Denver. Then queue up Live From The Road, Vol. 1 — their covers of The Band and MGMT's "Kids" alone are worth it.
Turnpike Troubadours finally got their Austin City Limits debut in 2017, and they swung for the fences. Watch "A Tornado Warning" — fiddle, steel, and Evan Felker with his eyes closed.
After their comeback, Turnpike debuted "Mean Old Sun" live at Stagecoach before anyone had heard the record. It's a survival song, and you can hear that he means every line.
Waylon at his peak: The Outlaw Performance, August 12, 1978, Grand Ole Opry House. Sixteen songs, Ralph Mooney on steel, "Luckenbach, Texas" and "Waymore's Blues" — the best live Waylon there is.
Then watch the bookends. His 1989 Austin City Limits set shows a looser, funnier Waylon, and Never Say Die at the Ryman in 2000 shows a man diminished but still swinging.

Time to Eat…
Food - From the Field
Start at Hunter Angler Gardener Cook. Hank Shaw's James Beard–winning site is the single best wild game resource on the internet, period.
Got ground venison? Make Hank's Greek venison meatballs. It's the recipe that converts the "it tastes gamey" crowd.
Dove season is here. Peppered dove breasts — brandy, green peppercorns, cream — take about 15 minutes and taste like a steakhouse.
Wild duck rule number one: never past 135°F. Then pick from Hank's duck breast library — wild rice pilaf, Thai curry, even chicken-fried duck.
For the trophy backstrap, go with MeatEater's rolled and stuffed backstrap. It works on whitetail, elk, or moose.
Want options? Outdoor Life's venison backstrap roundup has a bacon-wrapped backstrap with blackberry sauce and a full venison Wellington. Keep it pink in the middle.
For a dinner party, make duck with bigarade sauce — the original duck à l'orange, dating to at least 1825. If you want one book on the shelf, it's Buck, Buck, Moose.
Tell your people you love them…
Relationships - What it Costs
Sixty players are in the Caribbean this week because somebody back home covered the rent, drove the car, and took the calls after missed cuts. Nobody makes it alone — someone always gives something up.
Sacrifice isn't usually dramatic. It's small things, often — the Gottman Institute's whole thesis is that daily gestures beat grand ones every time.
Try this: pick one thing your person would love that you normally can't be bothered to do. Do it every week, not once, and watch what changes.
The longest study of adult life ever run — 87 years and counting at Harvard — found one clear answer: good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Not money. Not titles.
The sacrifice that counts most is time, because it's the one you can't earn back. Your career will take every hour you give it and still ask for more.
Audit your real bench. Who in your life has actually given something up for you — and when did you last tell them you noticed?
Here's what nobody says out loud: the people who sacrificed most for you rarely mention it. Your job isn't to repay the debt — it's to pass it on to someone else.

Football - The Third Saturday in October
Noon on Fox: No. 4 Ohio State at No. 5 Indiana. It's a rematch of last year's Big Ten title game, Indiana is 6-0, and ESPN's predictor calls it a coin flip.
Prime time: No. 2 Notre Dame at No. 8 BYU, 7:30 in Provo. BYU is unbeaten but playing without LJ Martin, so Bear Bachmeier has to carry it with his legs.
No. 1 Georgia survived Tuscaloosa 20-17 and now hosts Auburn in the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry. Meanwhile, No. 6 Alabama heads to No. 14 Tennessee — on the actual third Saturday in October.
The SEC afternoon doesn't stop: No. 13 Missouri at No. 9 Ole Miss at 3:30, and No. 16 Mississippi State at No. 22 LSU at noon. Two ranked-vs-ranked SEC games before dinner.
Night games carry rivalry weight. No. 3 Miami hosts Florida State at 7, and No. 7 Texas gets Florida at noon on ABC — the Gators would love nothing more than to wreck a Longhorn playoff run.
Out West, No. 12 UCLA jumped nine spots after winning at Oregon and hosts Wisconsin at the Rose Bowl. No. 11 Utah closes the night at Colorado at 10:15.
Sleepers: No. 18 Oklahoma State at No. 20 Houston, and No. 15 Kentucky — up 11 spots — at Oklahoma. Full ranked slate here; clear your Saturday.
On the road again…
Travel - Chasing the First Chair
Book now, because the snow's coming. Vail Resorts is calling for a Super El Niño, and Epic is offering 20% off for skiers ages 13-30 this season.
Jackson Hole is the anchor: three ski areas, deep snowpack, and Corbet's Couloir. Opening day is projected for Nov. 27 — stay in town, ski the Village.
Alta has the best snow outside Alaska and some of the best terrain in North America. Fly into Salt Lake, and you're in the Wasatch in under an hour.
Telluride is the prettiest ski town on the continent. Get Moscow mules at Telluride Distilling and dinner at Alpino Vino — at nearly 12,000 feet.
Revelstoke has the biggest vertical in North America and almost no crowds. Après at the Village Idiot, then thank yourself for flying to British Columbia.
Taos is the underrated one: dry Southwest powder, a Bavarian-looking village, and the Taos Pueblo World Heritage Site 30 minutes down the road. Big Sky is the other — wide open when everywhere else is packed.
Track opening dates here and build the trip backwards from one mountain. The best ski weeks start with the anchor, not the hotel deal.
Take care of yourself…
Exercise - No Gym Needed
Step 1 — Dancing squat. Run all seven moves 40 seconds on, 20 off, for 3 rounds. Start with the ACE dancing squat — staggered feet, because real life (and moguls) are never symmetrical.
Step 2 — Reverse lunge. Alternate legs, knee kisses the floor. This is your ski-season quad builder.
Step 3 — Push-up. Slow down, chest to floor. Drop to your knees before your form breaks, not after.
Step 4 — Glute bridge. Squeeze at the top for two seconds. Follow the ACE form guide — this is what saves your back on the back nine.
Step 5 — Table-top bridge. Hands behind you, hips up, reach across. It's the upper-body bridge most people skip.
Step 6 — Side plank get-up. Side plank into a rotation, both sides. Core strength is rotational, and so is your golf swing.
Step 7 — Wall sit to finish. Hold until your legs shake, then add 15 seconds. The work you do in October is what shows up on the first powder day — and the first tee time in spring.
